Part of our role at Sheboygan Monument & Stone Works is to listen to stories. People come in to tell us about their loved one, how they lived and what made them special. In return, we try to help them capture those special qualities in a memorial stone. We’d like to share one of those stories with you.

Amy Krueger was a hometown girl from Kiel, who liked country music and playing softball. She enlisted in the Army the day after the attacks of September 11, 2001, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In November of 2009, she was training with Army Reserve’s 467th Medical Detachment at Fort Hood in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan when she and a dozen of her fellow soldiers were gunned down in the infamous attack. She was 29.

How do you memorialize a friend and team mate who was cut down in her youth by a deranged gunman? The Sheboygan Softball Association asked us to try. Working together, we designed the monument which now sits proudly at the base of the flag at the ball park. It incorporates an image of Amy proudly wearing her softball uniform, recognizes her military service and incredible sacrifice, and pledges that she will never be forgotten by the many whose lives she touched.
