How Do You Do That?

We often have customers stop by our 927 Pennsylvania Avenue shop to explore their options. As they look through our samples of artfully carved and inscribed stone products, the question on many lips is, “do you do all this by hand?”

We offer our customers marble and granite options in a number of colors and patterns, which have been sourced from all over the world. In our showroom you can see and touch a variety of shapes and sizes, and compare the benefits of a “China Black,” “India Red,” “Dakota Mahogany” and many other colors side by side. You will also have the opportunity to sit down with our showroom staff and create your own design, choosing lettering and other components which will be engraved on your stone.

picture-016Once you have made your selection, our first step is to work with the stone supplier to obtain the blank stone in the color and shape of your choice. We then make a rubberized stencil, which will ensure the stone is engraved perfectly. In years past these stencils were laid out and hand-cut by experienced craftsman, but in more modern times we are able to transfer your design digitally from the computer-based design software directly to specialized stencil-cutting equipment in our shop. The stencil is applied carefully to the stone, and sandblasting equipment is used to precisely engrave your lettering and other decorative components into the stone. The more involved designs are done in our workshop, but we also have mobile equipment which can be used to engrave final dates or simple elements to an existing stone on site.

In the end, your stone has been crafted with modern techniques and traditional excellence to present an ageless look. We are committed to crafting a high quality monument which will celebrate your loved one’s life in exactly the way you want. Stop by the Sheboygan Monument & Stone Works shop any time to explore the possibilities.
